All my talking seems to confuse them. Kind of like trying to understand a songbird chirping. Only I'm the songbird, and the Fek seems a little frustrated I don't understand it, either. I don't think that level of communication is likely to happen anytime soon.

That makes two of us!

Still wondering how in the world we were expected to gather information on these people when we had no contact, we cannot communicate efficiently, and also, they want to pilfer our supplies. Sure feels like being sent down extra unprepared and with no actual idea of what's going on or expected.

What an adventure!

It's great.

Pantomime has worked to an extent. Though I'm getting pantomime herded back up the roads right now.

It is however highly effective if you want to cut down on numbers while being able to say "not my fault" or "not my problem." Again, seeing this, why are only the newest arrivals being sent here?

What did the older arrivals do last time? Or what can't they be seen doing now? Really, if the Captain would bother answering any questions sent to his inbox.

Except the crew is made of people like us. What marks the transition point? Are you really committed to creating a divide right now? When do we stop looking after "new" arrivals, hm? There are little truths that can be gleaned. And we all rely on their kindness; of course, some less than others, but as I have no way of supporting myself in unknown space without the Eluvio, I may be speaking from a knowingly weaker position.

Either way, no, I don't. I can throw a punch in theory, but it's not anything I've ever done much even in practice. Just no thumb tucked in. Knowing how to get out of bad situations sounds more invaluable the longer I'm down here.

Also, I think I just had my hand held by an antennae. Remarkable.

Ah, but we have, if we've been talking with them. Which I have, since I got here. It's a diverse crew, but I won't pretend I don't expect that people who have no reason to trust me won't tell me what's going on. I do agree, however, that sending unprepared people down planet with no experienced crew to oversee or provide guidance? Is ridiculous. That's the expendability I don't sanction.

Which is to say I agree, but not wholeheartedly. If I can see a reason why someone would want to manipulate and use people while keeping them blind and unaware to the true purpose, then I'd know more than I do now. All I feel is that it's likely that's what's happening. I don't know the bigger picture. Yet, as you say, for us and those who keep arriving after we have, there is no surviving if we're not watching out for each other.

So yes. Minimize damage. I agree. I'm glad to help with that to the extent that I'm able. I also agree that withholding judgment until we do see more of the larger picture behind what drives the Eluvio sounds wise.

I may need to take you up on that offer. As for my friends, I'll have to talk with Yuuri. I imagine he'll feel the same, but he may want to rely on those bonds he's been making on his own. Eichi physically can't withstand training, but there have to be decent tools he can use as a substitute. What he may lack in physical fortitude he makes up in mental fortitude.

They aren't. I feel if there had been a way to come here with a more organised approach, I would take more pleasure in watching their way of life. They have beautiful murals. They decorate themselves in intricate jewelry. It's impressive, and striking. Almost as much as their body paints and the designs... I haven't seen anything like it before.

Or they've been a different kind of chatty when drunk. It's almost amusing... they have more variety in what they say than the "civilians" do, from what I've run into.

No, neither can I. But hey. I'm Russian.

( there's always a lot of stuff that one can understand, in present and historical senses, to make him nod toward how hard one wants to prod at withheld or confusing information. what the consequences are for pressing, none of them know. )

Thanks. Once we're both back ship-side we can talk and figure out schedules. I'm sure you're fairly busy on your own.

If you do encounter the Fek, standing your ground and attempting to not be threatening seems to work fairly well. They're bigger than we are, but — kind of like how elephants are larger than us. Dangerous if provoked, but uninterested right now in confrontation.

Hard for me to say, but if you do, I hope it goes more smoothly than things initially went here.

Good luck! Thank you for listening to all of this.
